I knew the moment it happened that it was a mistake. Look at what you’ve got – a middle-aged grey-haired white male, trying to look like a cross between Garth Brooks and Vince Gill, with all the talent of Garth Brooks MINUS Vince Gill, winning over the beautiful AND talented Katharine McPhee (among others). I suspect he won only because no one wanted to be accused of being sexist and voting for her simply because she was a beautiful woman.
While it has helped some talented artists get their record deals, I have never thought too highly of the whole AI concept, because as a popular TV show, they will do what it takes to stay popular, even if it means creating controversy by voting for someone like Hicks.
